Maratek prepares the construction and demolition waste management plan for the renovation works of a nursering home in Barakaldo (Bizkaia), for Vivid

Within Maratek’s technical team is a Chartered Technical Architect. Among her professional responsibilities—aside from collaborating with the company’s staff in the development of execution projects, activity projects, and performing construction execution management—she is also responsible for drafting Construction and Demolition Waste Management Plans (CDWMP) for construction firms that commission such services.

The Construction and Demolition Waste Management Plan is drafted on the basis of the Waste Management Study included in the execution project, pursuant to Royal Decree 105/2008 regulating the production and management of construction and demolition waste, and Decree 112/2012 of 26 June, governing the production and management of construction and demolition waste in the Basque Country.

Each Plan expands upon and supplements the provisions contained in the initial study, adapting them as necessary to the specific suppliers, subcontractors, and the contractor’s construction methodology. Additionally, where required, modifications are introduced regarding the waste identification set out in the corresponding Waste Management Study, with the objective of aligning it as precisely as possible with the actual conditions and processes of each work site.

The purpose of the Construction and Demolition Waste Management Plan is to define the specific procedures and requirements applicable to the management of all construction and demolition waste generated during the works. To this end, the Plan designates a professional to assume the role of Environmental Technician on site—typically the site manager—who shall be responsible for ensuring full compliance with the CDWMP throughout the entire execution phase.

Furthermore, all materials arising from demolition and/or dismantling operations, where applicable and as detailed in each execution project, must be managed through the authorised waste handlers and treatment facilities listed in the Plan, in accordance with the waste hierarchy principle established under Law 22/2011, of 28 July, on waste and contaminated soils.

Likewise, and pursuant to Decree 112/2012, upon completion of the works, the Construction Management Team shall prepare and submit to the developer/producer the Final Waste Management Report (IFG), duly verified by a Professional Association, together with the Annex III table (D.112/2012) and all supporting documentation evidencing the waste management operations carried out during the works, as provided by the contractor(s).
